Japin Restaurant @ Queensbay Mall

I never notice there is a restaurant located at the same row of Hong Kong Video in Queensbay Mall, until I walked pass it last month. I told my friend I want to give it a try one day since the food they offered looks not bad from the menu. A week later, I headed to Queensbay Mall to have lunch in Japin Restaurant.

Japin Restaurant, is a Japanese and Chinese restaurant. The main course is all the Japanese food while the dessert, is the Chinese dessert I should say. If you don’t see the name from the name card, you will think that it is called Jopin Restaurant. This is because the logo of this restaurant was a bit confusing. It is an a, and not an o. The chopsticks represent the tail of the a.

The menu was a bit too old. I think they should have change a new set of menu.

Cutlery set is ready on the table.

After ordering the food, I started to use the waiting time to take some shots of this restaurant.

I like the interior design of Japin Restaurant. The ambiance is cozy and I feel comfortable to dine there.

After 15-20 minutes of waiting, finally our food came. I ordered Katsudon, which is Fried Chicken & Egg with Rice. It costs RM12 for the à la carte. By adding another RM3.80, you will get Miso Soup, Dessert and Drinks, either Soft Drinks or Tea. This is one of the tactic used in most of the restaurants.

The Katsudon came with a large portion of rice. The Fried Chicken was not that crispy anymore due to the Egg. Luckily, the chicken was tender and boneless. However, it was a bit salty on the rice because of the soy sauce. I still finished all of them though.

Miso Soup. This is too salty.

My friend ordered Teriyaki Set (Sweet Sauce Chicken Set). The Teriyaki Set came with a bowl of Rice, Miso Soup, Dessert and Drinks as well. I managed to try one piece of the chicken. Not bad.

The mashed potato on the Teriyaki Set looks special. I never taste on it.

After the main course and drinks (I have hot Green Tea for drinks), I was full. I have forgotten that we still have the dessert until the waiter brought them for us. They never let you know what dessert they will serve you. It based on their dessert of the day. The dessert of that day was Wheat Porridge. Normally, we call it as “Kantong” in Hokkien. It’s originally come from the Malay word “Gandum”.

I like the dessert. The taste was just nice. Although I was full, I still finish it all. Oh…. I love desserts so much!

There is one thing I want to mention, when I flipped through the dessert column on the menu, there are so many desserts which are not available. You can see it from the photo below. So many orange sticker pasted beside those desserts. Maybe those desserts are not popular. That is why, I think.

  2. Allie,
I like it too!!! You must try next time when you pass by this restaurant.

    Kikey,
The food look nice for sure. Your comment on the photos is also as usual. LOL. 🙂

  3. I think Jopin has an outlet in Island Plaza, that is if it has not closed down.

I thought Katsudon is supposed to be Pork chop rice! That was the first Japanese food I had when I was in Singapore. That was a very very long time ago. Juicy tender pork chop coated in bread crumbs deep fried to perfection served on top of white rice, drench with the special sauce and egg mixture.

Katsudon is the first thing I try out in any Japanese restaurant. It is a simple meal, but not easy to master.

I guess if the opportunity is there, i might try it!

  4. Their Butayaki set is delicious! Hmm…last time they served us red bean soup as their free dessert. “Gandum” looks much more delicious.
By the way, the mashed potato taste so so only, not really nice.

  5. Jason,
I seldom go to Island Plaza, I have no idea there is an outlet there. Hehe. Regarding the Katsudon, the menu stated is chicken. I also not very sure about this. Ya, if you have the chance, go try it. But it will be salty, just to let you know up front.

    Cariso,
This is the first time I dine there. How much is the dessert last time?

    500ml,
I totally agree with you. It’s too salty for me, especially the Miso Soup!

  6. Little Inbox,
If I go there again next time, I will try out their Butayaki. 🙂 The “GAndum” is really nice! I like it very much.

    CK,
Go try it one day and let me know how was it.

    New Kid,
It was located quite isolated at the north wing. It’s the same floor as Sakae Sushi but you need to walk to another side, same side as Maybank. Maybank is just one floor below.

JAPIN is now new opening in KL, SG Wang Plaza, concourse floor(same floor with GAINT Hyperstore).

They are having an opening promotion as “all item 10% OFF”. GO GO GO!!

  25. The interior was too dark and the staffs were not high-spirit. Works are done lazily. I doubt if i went in a Japanese Restaurant right. The food taste a little bit unusually but it’s still edible.
