Penang Hill, one of the tourist attraction, always pack with people especially during school holidays. You can see the long queue for the train ride. If you don’t want to wait, you can always opt for the fast lane option. Of course, you will need to pay a little bit more on the ticket. I went up to Penang Hill last month for David Brown’s Christmas Menu and within a month time, I went up again for the upcoming Valentine’s Menu. This time around, the queue is not that scary as it was the last day of the school holiday. The train will take approximately 4 min and 30 seconds to reach the top.
It’s good to have a Coconut Ice Cream in such a hot weather.
Coconut Ice Cream. Although it’s only with peanuts, it’s more than enough for me. I don’t really like to have bread inside. Yum! Try to look for the stall, I don’t think you will miss it.
The Valentine’s Menu will come with starter, soup, 2 main course, dessert and coffee/tea. Each person will get one set of Starter, Soup, 1st Main Course, Dessert and Coffee/Tea. For 2nd Main Course, you can choose 2 out of the 3 choices. Scroll down for more details.
As usual, the bun and butter will kick start the meal. I always like the bun. It’s so nice to eat with the Anchor butter.
STARTER
ROULEAU DE PRINTERMPS.
Cod Fish Paper Roll & Mango Spring Roll. It is quite unique to see 2 different types of roll as starter. I prefer the Cod Fish Paper Roll as it is a more healthy option if compare to the fried Mango Spring Roll. But there is no Mango inside the paper roll, too bad! This is the only difference between these 2 rolls.
SOUP
LOBSTER BISQUE
Lobster Essence & Slipper Lobster Meat. The lobster taste is strong. The soup is good with the additional of Slipper Lobster Meat in it. Maybe it will be nice if I can dip the bun with this soup. It should be a nice one.
1ST MAIN COURSE
CHICKEN ROULADE
Poivrade Sauce & Potato Confit. I like the pistachio nuts in the stuffed chicken. The combination is really a good idea. The white round thing is not a scallop! At first we thought it was. It is a radish instead.
2ND MAIN COURSE
STEAMED CHITEAU COD
Seafood Veloute & Chive Pomme Puree. For those who prefer fish to meat, this will be the choice for you (as the other 2 choices will be beef and lamb). As you can see, the Cod fish is accompany with the fish roes. The Cod fish is fresh and I like the smooth texture. The fish roes are an add on, it will burst in your mouth when you eat it.
PANSEARED GRAIN FED TENDERLOIN
Australia Potato Crisps & Aujus. It’s prepared and served in medium rare. I seldom eat medium rare for beef but this Panseared Grain Fed Tenderloin is so tender. It’s served with the Australian Potato Crisp.
LAMB STEW
Balsamic Portwine & Potato Cornfit. If you are not sure which to choose, beef or lamb, I will recommend you to choose the lamb. The lamb stew is juicy and tender, together with the gravy, will make you to crave for more.
DESSERT
ALWAYS SWEET
Chocolate Strawberry Mousse & Sponge. The dessert comes with a scoop of ice cream and berries. Love the combination.
Coffee I will always ask for Coffee after the meal.
If you make the reservation with full payment for the Valentine’s Dinner on 14 February, you will get a bottle of Red or White House Wine for FREE!
The Valentine’s Menu will start from 12 February to 14 February. The Couple Package is priced at RM338++. For Valentine’s Day, it is not necessary for couples, you can also go with your family members or your BFF. For this, the additional odd one will be charged at RM170++.
There will be 2 sessions for the Valentine’s Dinner on 14 February, 5.30pm-8pm and 8.30pm-10pm. There will be no Hi-Tea available on that day.
Overall, the valentine’s package is really worth the price with all the good dishes served and a free bottle of red/white house wine (with full payment upfront). If you still not plan out your Valentine’s dinner, this will be a good option as you can go up to Penang Hill to see the night view before or after your dinner (depending on which session you are going). It will be a very romantic and memorable experience to you to have your Valentine’s dinner at the top of the hill.
