Obake-Ya Restaurant

I went to Obake-Ya Restaurant with my friends after the Chinese New Year this year. I got to know this restaurant from forwarded email and the food review from people’s blog. The theme of the restaurant caught my attention. It was interesting to have a jail concept restaurant to serve Japanese food. I thought of giving it a try.

I felt the darkness when I first step into the restaurant. It was a bit dark inside. Just after you stepped into the restaurant, you can see a lot of wine on the rack and a Japanese ghost figure on the left hand side.

On the right, there is the restaurant signboard and the cashier.

This is the jail room that we have our meal. It was designed exactly like a jail room. However, it was too colorful if compare to the original jail room.

Just after we have our seat in the jail room, we immediately asked for the orders since we were like hungry ghost at that moment. Haha.

This is the menu and the cutlery set. The menu is colorful, isn’t it?

We ordered quite a number of food. Are you ready for the food photos? Please bear with me, there will be a lot of photos and some of them were taken in different angle!

Let’s start!!!

This is the special drink which was not in the menu. You need to ask for it if you want to have this drink. In deed, it was very special. The drink was served in the cylinder that we used it for the science experiment when we were in high school. On top of that, there is a syringe which was filled with the grape juice (If I was not mistaken). Very special right? It was a MUST order drink!

Next, it was the Fried Udon. We finished it quite fast. It was good. The Udon was not over cooked or under cooked. It was nicely fried and the taste was superb!

The Tempura was just a normal one. It was a bit oily. I forgot to take the photos together with the sauce.

Unagi, my all time favorite Japanese dish. Although Unagi was served in the same way in most of the Japanese restaurant, I still like it very much! Yummy Yummy~~~

Stone Rice. I forgot the exact name. I simply name it as Stone Rice. It was hot when the food arrived. The look of this dish was not really tempting at all.

Fried Golden Needle Mushroom. Recently, I was fall in love with this Golden Needle Mushroom. It was nice to have it during steamboat. For this Fried Golden Needle Mushroom, there were fried until so crispy. It was not enough for 6 of us. The serving was too little. We thought of re-order for one more plate but in the end, we decided to order other dish rather than the same one. Thumbs up!!

How can we missed the Sashimi, right? Here you go….

The Sashimi was nicely decorated when served. All of them are very fresh and good. If you like Japanese food, Sashimi is one of the dish that you cannot miss.

Japanese Pizza was the additional dish we ordered. Our stomach was not full after so many food we had. We asked for recommendation from the lady boss. Japanese Pizza was the one recommended by her. This Pizza was too salty to me. But the taste will just fantastic. Is it a bit salty will make the food become nicer to be eaten? I have no idea.

Last dish that we need to have while we dine in the Japanese restaurant was the Sushi. The Sushi Boat came with different kind of Sushi. It was not very special. That is the reason why I cannot remember how they are taste like. Oh, I just like Sushi.

If you need to go to the washroom, you will need to pass by a small and short distance bridge. I even take the photos of the washroom. Oh my…… I was so addicted on taking photos!

The sink was special.

Some random environment photos from Obake-Ya Restaurant.

The food was nice. The environment was superb. If you don’t have a chance to visit a jail, you can try to dine there to experience it. However, the price is at a higher range. For all the food we have ordered, the total price was around RM300. We have 6 people, including me, which means, ~ RM50 per person.

Obake-Ya Restaurant was located at the town area, the road opposite the City Bayview Hotel.

Address: 9 & 11, Leith Street.
Phone: 04-2624772.
Business Hours: Sun-Thurs (12pm-2.30pm, 5pm-12am), Fri-Sat (12pm-2.30pm, 6pm-1am).
