This is the 2nd time I go to Penang Hill this year. Previously, I went there just for sightseeing. This time, I went there to try out the set dinner from David Brown’s Restaurant & Tea Terrace. To go up Penang hill, you can either take the train or hike to the hill. I took the train, I am too lazy to hike and the weather is too hot that day. It costs RM10 for return trip with MyKad.

This is one the entrances for David Brown’s. Turn left to go to the Sky Terrace while turn right to go to the restaurant. Turn right it is!

For the set dinner, the bun came first with the butter. The bun is warm while serving and I like this a lot. Cut it into half and put the butter in, heavenly! It will be good if it can be refilled, like all the restaurants in the United States, you can always ask for more bread! However, you will be fulled and not able to finish all the food later.

Appetizer – Smoked Duck Beast with Mix Green and Honey Lemon Vinaigrette Dressing. I like the dressing very much. It tastes good. I wish to have more for the portion.

Soup – Seafood Corn Soup. The first thing came to my mind when I first taste the soup, lemongrass!! Yes, the lemongrass taste is a bit strong but it is still acceptable.  There are chunks of prawns and scallops in the soup. To me, this soup is special as I never expect to taste the lemongrass by just seeing the name of the soup.

Main Course

David Brown’s Grilled Chicken Chop with Roasted Baby Potato, Steam Vegetable, Corn and Jumbo Sausage. No sauce is provided for this main course. By looking at it, it seems to be a normal dish but the chef proves me wrong. The chicken is grilled with the homemade BBQ sauce to a perfect taste. However, I still prefer it to come with some sauce. It is too dry. For the sausage, it is too salty to my liking.

Pan Seared Sushi Grade Norwegian Salmon with Potato Cream, Citrus Salsa, Pea Sprout and Aioli. If you have no idea on what to choose among the 4 main course, just get this Pan Seared Salmon. It will not go wrong with the taste. This is the most colorful presentation among the 4.

Pan Seared Grain Fed Sirloin with Roasted Baby Potato, Onion Marmalade, Mix Green, Balsamic Reduction and Au Jus. I always ask for medium well for the beef. Medium rare is too much for me. I felt that the taste is better if you eat it together with the Onion Marmalade. Too bad, it came with only a little portion.

Braised Lamb Shortloin with Potato Cream, Onion Confit, Steam Vegetable and Corn. This is the only main course comes with gravy. The lamb is so soft, out of my expectation. I think it is because the chef braised the lamb for 3 hours! This is the softest lamb I have tested so far. The best thing is, there is no gamey flavor at all. For people who scared of this, scare no more!

The BIG FOUR!

Dessert – Chocolate Mousse Cake, Pistachio Tuile, Vanilla Ice Cream, Mixed Berry Compote and Oreo Soil. Here comes the best part of the meal, the dessert. The sweetness of the chocolate mousse cake is just nice. Eat it with the vanilla ice cream, mixed berries and Oreo soil, it is completely the best combination so far. I have no complain at all on the dessert. I love it!!

You can always choose between Coffee or Tea to end your meal. For a coffee lover like me, sure go for the coffee.

Overall, the food is good and the scenery is awesome too! With the new train service, you no longer need to wait for a long time to go up the hill. If you have not gone up the hill for years, it is a good time for you to revisit and relax, either with your friends or family, to have a nice dinner.
