On the first day in Singapore, my cousin came and fetched us to the nearby shopping mall to have lunch. We also have our breakfast in the same place but I will talked about the breakfast in another post. The shopping mall we went is the IMM Shopping Centre, which is near to Jurong East MRT station. My cousin suggested to have western food for lunch since he likes the pork ribs very much. We then headed to The Café Cartel which is located in the basement.

It was not crowded when we were there. On that time, the clock was already pointed to 3pm. Lunch time was over and tea break was coming soon. We got the menu as soon as we have our seats.

After browsing and comparing, I managed to decide what I want for my lunch finally. I ordered a Must Try item on the menu, Hawaiian Pork Chop ($14.20), which is served with the Cartel Special Sauce. You can complete your meal with soup of the day, free flow of home made bread and drinks (coffee, tea, soft drinks or peach iced tea) by adding $3.90.

The Hawaiian Pork Chop comes in a very big portion. In fact, all the food was served in an American style: Huge! There are 3 pieces of Pork Chop, topped with the sauce and pineapple slices. This is what we call Hawaiian. Pineapple will be an item if you ordered the food with the word “Hawaiian”. In addition, there were fries and vegetables (carrots and cucumbers), accompany with the Pork.

The Pork was tender and soft to be eaten. The pork doesn’t contain the pork smell. You know, some people don’t eat pork because of this reason. The sauce went well with the pork. It tastes really good!

I ordered the Chef’s recommendation dish for my mum. It was the Grilled Chicken ($11.80), served with Texas Ranch Mushroom Sauce. I got the chance to taste some of it since it was a lot. My mum for sure cannot finish it by herself. The Grilled Chicken was just normal, if compare to the Hawaiian Pork Chop.

Besides the Grill Chicken, there are a small portion of spaghetti and vegetables as well.

Pepper Fish Pasta ($13.20) was coming up next. It consists of pan-fried linguine in olive oil with garlic, mushrooms, sliced dory fish, crushed black pepper and capsicums. The pasta was full of pepper taste, which was nice to me. I like it.

My aunt ordered the Pepper Fish Pasta with the add on. Here is the soup of the day. I didn’t taste it.

Home Made Bread. It is free flow. You can get as many as you want, if you tummy can support. My cousin took it for me to taste. He took 4 small cups of butter cube which I only used one of them. A bit waste. The bread was very soft. It was great to have it with butter. Yummy.

Finally, here comes the Top 100 Signature Dish Award 2005, St. Louis Pork Ribs (Promotional Price: $13.80. Usual Price: $15.80). It uses the lip smacking & succulent baby back ribs and roasted with home made BBQ sauce. The Pork Ribs came with fries and salad too.

The Pork Ribs was so soft and tender. The BBQ sauce blended well with the ribs. It tasted so good!! No wonder it won the awards and my cousin was crazy about it. It is a MUST order item if you dine in The Café Cartel, don’t forget!!! I will definitely try out other items in the menu if I go to Singapore next time.

The Café Cartel has 10 outlets across the Singapore island. The one I visited is in the IMM Building. IMM is providing shuttle service for people who wants to go there. If you are going by MRT, exit at the Jurong East Interchange station. Take the escalator to the ground floor. There is a Popular Bookstore there. Just walk inside the Popular Bookstore, go out from the backdoor and cross the street. You can see people are waiting for the IMM shuttle.
