Ivy’s Kitchen @ Penang Chow Thye Road

Posted on by

Another food review arranged by Criz. Our destination for the review was Ivy’s Kitchen, located at 54 Chow Thye Road. Last month, there was a lunch review in Ivy’s Kitchen as well. I never attended but I have read the reviews by our food bloggers. This time, 6 of us were invited to try out the dinner instead.

A big banner is hang on top of the entrance. As you can see, Ivy’s Kitchen offers Steam Boat Dinner, Seafood Dinner and Fish Head Curry. Of course, these 3 are only some of the dishes among others.

img_1333

You can choose to sit outside or inside with air conditioning. It’s your decision. However, order and payment need to be done inside.

Table setting inside the restaurant.

img_1328

We suppose to order our own drink. Since we have no idea on what to choose, Mr Tan decided to give us different colors of drink, for the photo taking purposes. 🙂 First, it comes with 5 colorful drinks.

img_1354

Then, add in another one, become 6. But we have 7!

img_1357

Here comes another one, to make it 7. All the 7 drinks are: Honeydew, Watermelon, Apple with Lime, Cucumber Mint, Carrot with Milk, Orange and Ambala Sour Plum. Each drink costs RM2.20. According to NKOTB who has the Apple with Lime, the lime is too strong against the apple. For Cucumber Mint, Waco said it tasted like cucumber. Hmmmmm, of course it tasted like cucumber, if not, it tasted like banana? LOL.

img_1359

Our first dish of the night, Sweet and Sour Flower Crab. The gravy is very good. However, I never feel the sourness. Besides, I like it to be more spicy. Mr Tan explained, if it is too spicy, children are not able to take it. All the dishes are meant for whole family. This has cleared all the doubts. We suggested to have the level of spiciness:  mild, moderate and super spicy for customers to choose their desired level. Sounds great right? This dish will become perfect if Fried Man Tou is provided, to dip it with the gravy. Slurp…….

The charges for Sweet and Sour Flower Crab is RM30 per 600g. By looking and the photo below, can you guess how much we have eaten? Honestly, I have no idea. If you want to know, ask Mr Tan or Ms Ivy. Maybe, you can get a free treat from Mr Tan by guessing it right. I said, MAYBE.

img_1379

Joo Hoo Char – RM10. This dish is very common. You can find it in most of the Nyonya restaurant. I just like it.

img_1395

Whose hand? This one is pretty easy to guess. It is nice to have the Joo Hoo Char with the vege.

img_1409

Lobak is the next. If Mr Tan never mentioned the meat was chicken, I did not notice also. I just eat. To me, it is just normal. I still prefer the one my mum made. Haha. RM6 for this plate of Lobak.

img_1398

Here comes the Asam Prawn. The size of the prawn is small, if compare to other restaurant. But with the price of RM4-RM5, it’s worth it! I like this Asam Prawn. YUMMY!

img_1416

Sambal Kai Lan. It has 3 categories: Small (RM8), Medium (RM10) and Large (RM14). If you dine in Ivy’s Kitchen, don’t forget to order this dish with more sambal or more spicy. The sambal is just fantastic.

img_1427

Fish Curry or in Malay, Gulai Tumis Ikan. Black Promfret was being used in this curry. The curry is sour. Spicy wise, it is OK for me. The price is charged according to the weight of the fish. RM10 per 100g. Again, how much is the fish curry below costs? Same answer from me, ask Mr Tan.

img_1442

Tofu Seaweed Soup – Small (RM8), Medium (RM10) and Large (RM14). It is a very normal soup. Nothing special.

img_1469

Additional dish: Beef Rendang, courtesy of Mr Tan. The gravy was superb. However, the beef was not tender enough. Besides, maybe the beef can be replaced by chicken or pork, since some people don’t eat beef.

img_1452

Red Bean Longan – RM2 per bowl.

img_1471

It is full of red bean, sago and longan, worth the price.

img_1488

Overall, I was very full after this dinner. All dishes are delicious and great, especially Sweet and Sour Flower Crab, Asam Prawn, Sambal Kai Lan and Beef Rendang. If you cannot think of a place to go for your dinner, try Ivy’s Kitchen out. It’s simply delicious and yummy!

  15. Glad I gave this fifteen minutes rather than the usual three minute skim, and a look at frostdunemarket earned the same investment, time spent on quality content is rarely wasted but the reverse is also true and learning which sites deserve which kind of attention is part of being a careful online reader.

  17. Как грамотно оформить информированное добровольное согласие пациента? Часто слышу, что медучреждения нарушают стандарты оказания помощи. права медицинской сестры https://applitech.ru По ФЗ-61 об обращении лекарств тоже много спорных моментов.

  19. A particular pleasure to read this with a fresh coffee, and a look at silverpetalstore extended the pleasure across more pages, content that pairs well with quiet morning rituals is something I have come to value highly and this site has the kind of energy that fits naturally into a calm reading routine.

  21. Quietly the post solved something I had been turning over without quite knowing how to phrase the question, and a look at trendydealhub extended that quiet solving, content that addresses unformulated needs is content with reader insight and this site has demonstrated that insight at a high rate across the pieces I have read recently.

  25. Closed the tab and immediately reopened it ten minutes later because I wanted to reread a part, and a stop at goldenpinecollective drew the same return, content that pulls you back after closing it is doing something well beyond the average and worth marking as exceptional in my mental catalogue of reliable sites.

  29. Felt the post had been written without using a single buzzword, and a look at urbanpinebazaar continued that clean vocabulary, content free of jargon and trendy phrases reads better and ages better and this site has clearly committed to a vocabulary that will not feel dated in three years which is impressive editorially.

  31. Adding this to my list of go to references for the topic, and a stop at shadowglowcorner confirmed the rest of the site deserves the same, definitely the kind of resource that earns its place rather than getting forgotten the moment the next interesting article shows up in my feed somewhere else on the web.

  33. Now planning to write about the topic myself eventually using this post as a reference, and a look at vividtrendcenter would also serve in that future piece, content that becomes raw material for my own writing rather than just informing my reading is content with multiplicative value and this site is generating that multiplicative effect.

  34. Bookmark earned and folder updated to track this site separately, and a look at trendydealstation confirmed the folder upgrade was the right call, organising my reading list so that good sites do not get lost in a sea of casual bookmarks is something I do more carefully now and this site warranted its own spot.

  35. Now adjusting my mental list of reliable sites for this topic, and a stop at ambergrovecrafts reinforced the adjustment, the small ongoing curation work of maintaining trusted sources is one of the actual practical activities of careful reading and this site has earned a permanent place on my list for this particular subject.

  38. Now recognising that the post handled the topic with appropriate technical precision without becoming dry, and a stop at silverdunecollective continued that balance, technical precision and readability are often in tension and this site has clearly figured out how to maintain both at once which is one of the harder editorial achievements in the form.

  39. Honestly enjoyed every minute spent here, that is not something I say lightly, and a look at royaltrendcorner confirmed I will be back, the bar for spending time online is high for me these days but this site clears it without effort which is high praise indeed from this reader who is usually rather demanding.

  40. Thanks for the simple approach, too many sites bury the actual point under layers of unnecessary words, but here every line earns its place, and a look at ironbloomcorner showed the same care for the reader which is something I will remember the next time I need answers on a topic.

  42. Quality you can feel from the first paragraph, the writer clearly knows the topic and how to share it, and a quick look at amberpetalmarket confirmed the same depth runs throughout the rest of the site as well which is rare and worth pointing out when it happens online for any reader passing through.

  43. Investing in startups offers exposure to high-growth ventures and forward-thinking sectors.

Early-stage companies fuel disruption and job expansion, building emerging sectors and positions.
Thanks to disciplined evaluation, startup investing often proves to be a valuable part in a broader approach.

  44. Now adjusting my mental model of how the topic fits into the broader landscape, and a look at neonbuycorner extended that adjustment, content that affects my structural understanding rather than just my factual knowledge is content with deeper impact and this site is providing those structural updates at a meaningful rate consistently across topics.

  48. Skipped lunch to finish reading, which says something, and a stop at urbanlighthousestore kept me at my desk longer than planned, when content beats the lunch impulse the writer has done something genuinely impressive in an attention environment full of immediately satisfying alternatives competing for the same finite block of reader time.

  49. Investing in early-stage companies provides access to rapid-growth ventures and pioneering ideas.
It lets investors to balance their holdings and often achieve higher-than-average profits.
    https://www.reddit.com/user/TheySaidBuy/
Startups drive disruption and economic development, forming emerging opportunities and employment.
Given proper due diligence, backing startups can be a meaningful addition within a well-structured strategy.

  50. More original than the recycled takes I keep finding on the topic elsewhere, and a quick look at globalcartcorner confirmed it, the kind of site that has its own voice rather than echoing whatever is trending which makes it stand out as a refreshing change from the usual rotation of generic content I see daily.
