Ivy’s Kitchen @ Penang Chow Thye Road

Posted on by

Another food review arranged by Criz. Our destination for the review was Ivy’s Kitchen, located at 54 Chow Thye Road. Last month, there was a lunch review in Ivy’s Kitchen as well. I never attended but I have read the reviews by our food bloggers. This time, 6 of us were invited to try out the dinner instead.

A big banner is hang on top of the entrance. As you can see, Ivy’s Kitchen offers Steam Boat Dinner, Seafood Dinner and Fish Head Curry. Of course, these 3 are only some of the dishes among others.

img_1333

You can choose to sit outside or inside with air conditioning. It’s your decision. However, order and payment need to be done inside.

We suppose to order our own drink. Since we have no idea on what to choose, Mr Tan decided to give us different colors of drink, for the photo taking purposes. 🙂 First, it comes with 5 colorful drinks.

img_1354

Then, add in another one, become 6. But we have 7!

img_1357

Here comes another one, to make it 7. All the 7 drinks are: Honeydew, Watermelon, Apple with Lime, Cucumber Mint, Carrot with Milk, Orange and Ambala Sour Plum. Each drink costs RM2.20. According to NKOTB who has the Apple with Lime, the lime is too strong against the apple. For Cucumber Mint, Waco said it tasted like cucumber. Hmmmmm, of course it tasted like cucumber, if not, it tasted like banana? LOL.

Our first dish of the night, Sweet and Sour Flower Crab. The gravy is very good. However, I never feel the sourness. Besides, I like it to be more spicy. Mr Tan explained, if it is too spicy, children are not able to take it. All the dishes are meant for whole family. This has cleared all the doubts. We suggested to have the level of spiciness:  mild, moderate and super spicy for customers to choose their desired level. Sounds great right? This dish will become perfect if Fried Man Tou is provided, to dip it with the gravy. Slurp…….

The charges for Sweet and Sour Flower Crab is RM30 per 600g. By looking and the photo below, can you guess how much we have eaten? Honestly, I have no idea. If you want to know, ask Mr Tan or Ms Ivy. Maybe, you can get a free treat from Mr Tan by guessing it right. I said, MAYBE.

img_1379

Joo Hoo Char – RM10. This dish is very common. You can find it in most of the Nyonya restaurant. I just like it.

img_1395

Whose hand? This one is pretty easy to guess. It is nice to have the Joo Hoo Char with the vege.

img_1409

Lobak is the next. If Mr Tan never mentioned the meat was chicken, I did not notice also. I just eat. To me, it is just normal. I still prefer the one my mum made. Haha. RM6 for this plate of Lobak.

img_1398

Here comes the Asam Prawn. The size of the prawn is small, if compare to other restaurant. But with the price of RM4-RM5, it’s worth it! I like this Asam Prawn. YUMMY!

img_1416

Sambal Kai Lan. It has 3 categories: Small (RM8), Medium (RM10) and Large (RM14). If you dine in Ivy’s Kitchen, don’t forget to order this dish with more sambal or more spicy. The sambal is just fantastic.

img_1427

Fish Curry or in Malay, Gulai Tumis Ikan. Black Promfret was being used in this curry. The curry is sour. Spicy wise, it is OK for me. The price is charged according to the weight of the fish. RM10 per 100g. Again, how much is the fish curry below costs? Same answer from me, ask Mr Tan.

img_1442

Tofu Seaweed Soup – Small (RM8), Medium (RM10) and Large (RM14). It is a very normal soup. Nothing special.

img_1469

Additional dish: Beef Rendang, courtesy of Mr Tan. The gravy was superb. However, the beef was not tender enough. Besides, maybe the beef can be replaced by chicken or pork, since some people don’t eat beef.

img_1452

Red Bean Longan – RM2 per bowl.

img_1471

It is full of red bean, sago and longan, worth the price.

img_1488

Overall, I was very full after this dinner. All dishes are delicious and great, especially Sweet and Sour Flower Crab, Asam Prawn, Sambal Kai Lan and Beef Rendang. If you cannot think of a place to go for your dinner, try Ivy’s Kitchen out. It’s simply delicious and yummy!

  6. Reading this prompted me to dig out an old reference book related to the topic, and a stop at qualitycartarena extended that connection to other sources, content that connects me back to my own existing knowledge rather than asking me to forget it is content with continuity and this site has that continuous quality.

  8. However casually I came to this site I have ended up reading carefully, and a look at stylishgoodscorner continued earning that careful reading, the conversion from casual visitor to careful reader is something content earns rather than demands and this site has accomplished that conversion for me over the course of just a few pieces.

  9. Odpovědné online hraní představuje zásadový přístup a rámec k i-gamingu, jenž klade na první místo kontrolu a blaho účastníka.
Podporuje dospělé, aby si nastavili pevné hranice na peníze a zařazovali pravidelné přestávky od hraní.

Také podporuje sebeuvědomění a umožňuje uživatelům identifikovat varovné signály škodlivého hraní a v případě potřeby vyžádat si odbornou pomoc.
Cílem odpovědného online hraní je, aby hraní setrvalo zábavou v mezích osobních prostředků a osobní kontroly, a nestalo se zdrojem problémů.

  10. Skipped to a specific section because I knew that was the question I had, and the answer was clean, and a stop at mysticmeadowgoods similarly delivered targeted answers without burying them, content engineered for readers who arrive with specific needs rather than open ended browsing is increasingly valuable in a search heavy reading environment.

  11. Decided this was the kind of site I would defend in a discussion about good blog content, and a stop at bluecrestemporium reinforced that, very few sites earn active defence rather than passive consumption and this one has clearly crossed that threshold for me without needing any explicit pitch from the writers themselves either.

  12. A small thank you note from me to the team behind this work, the post earned it, and a stop at quickcartworld suggested more thanks would be in order over time, recognising the people who do good writing online is something I try to remember to do because the alternative is silence and silence rewards mediocrity unfortunately.

  16. Now noticing the careful balance the post struck between confidence and humility, and a stop at sunwovenmarket maintained the same balance, finding the line between asserting and admitting is hard and this site has clearly developed the calibration to walk that line consistently which produces a more persuasive reading experience for me.

  19. If a friend asked me where to read carefully on the topic I would send them here without hesitation, and a look at hyperdealhub confirmed the recommendation strength, the directness of my recommendation reflects how confident I am in the quality and this site has earned undiluted recommendations from me across multiple recent conversations actually.

  23. Reading this gave me something to think about for the rest of the afternoon, and after goldenharvestlane I had even more to mull over, the kind of post that lingers in the background of your day rather than evaporating immediately is genuinely valuable in an attention economy that punishes depth rather than rewarding it.

Navíc rozvíjí otevřenost a napomáhá uživatelům rozpoznat rizikové signály problematického sázení a v případě potřeby vyhledat podporu.
Smyslem bezpečného online sázení je, aby sázení zůstalo bezpečnou zábavou v rámci hráčových možností a osobní kontroly, a neproměnilo se spouštěčem stresu.

  27. Took something from this I did not expect to find, and a stop at blossombaygoods added another unexpected useful piece, content that exceeds expectations rather than just meeting them is the kind that builds enthusiasm and earns repeat visits without any explicit ask from the writer or platform behind the work being read.

  28. A piece that did not try to be timeless and ended up reading as durable anyway, and a look at urbancartzone extended that durable feel, content that stays useful past its publication date without straining for permanence is content that ages well and this site has the kind of evergreen quality that I value highly today.

  32. Picked up something useful for a side project, and a look at infinitygoodscorner added another piece I will incorporate, content that connects to specific projects I am working on is content with practical utility and the practical utility of this site is showing up across multiple posts I have read in the last hour or so.

  33. If the topic interests you at all this is a place to spend time, and a look at crystalharborgoods reinforced that recommendation, the broader question of where to invest topical reading time is one this site answers convincingly through the consistent quality across multiple pieces I have sampled during the current reading session today.

  34. Definitely returning here, that is decided, and a look at stylishtrendhub only made the case stronger, this is one of those rare websites that rewards regular visits rather than feeling stale after the first read which is something I cannot say about most of the places I bookmark today across all my topics.

  36. Glad to have another data point on a question I am still thinking through, and a look at goldenpetalmarket added two more, content that acknowledges its place in a wider conversation rather than pretending to settle the question alone is intellectually honest in a way that I wish was more common across the open web.

  40. Will be sharing this with a couple of people who care about the topic, and a stop at globalgoodscorner added more material worth passing along, the kind of site that is generous with quality content and does not make you jump through hoops to access it which is appreciated more than the team probably realises.

  41. Really thankful for posts that respect a reader’s time, this one does, and a quick look at mysticbaystore was the same, no need to scroll through endless intros just to get to the actual content, that approach alone is enough reason to come back here regularly for the kind of writing offered.

  46. Skipped the social share buttons but might come back to actually use one later, and a stop at velvettrailbazaar extended that share urge, content that triggers genuine sharing impulses rather than performative ones is content that has actually moved me and not many posts in a typical week do that for me actually.

  48. Reading this confirmed a small detail I had been uncertain about, and a stop at radiantcovecollective provided the source for further checking, content that supports verification through citations or links rather than just asserting facts is more trustworthy and this site has clearly built its credibility through that kind of verifiable approach consistently.
