I saw Yeng Keng Hotel for the very first time when my friend fetched me for lunch one day and we passed by Chulia Street. If I am the one who is driving, I don’t think I can notice it. Yeng Keng Hotel is located at the core of Georgetown, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Before I go, I called up Yeng Keng Hotel, asking about the car parking. I know it is very hard to find a car park along Chulia Street. The receptionist was not really giving me a good answer about this question. She just told me, you drive inside to the hotel entrance will do. I was like, OK…..
When I reached, I almost missed the entrance. Actually, I missed it at first. Luckily, there is no car behind. I made a reverse and turn into Yeng Keng Hotel. The parking lot is at the back. It is a small parking lot though. I think the most can park up to around 10 cars, if I am not mistaken. There is only one space left when I was there, which is a parking lot for the handicapped. I asked the receptionist whether I can park there. She replied, YES.
I started by wandering around and taking some of the surrounding photos.

Swimming pool.

After the photo taking session, the food is served.
Sauces.

Spring Rolls: RM12.00 (per portion of 2 pcs) / RM24.00 for 4pcs.

Maybe you will think, why the spring roll is so expensive? It is due to the ingredient they used. It has crab meat, chicken meat, prawn, black mushroom, yambean, carrot and onion.

Hainanese Mushroom Soup: RM10.00 (per portion for one person) / RM45.00 for big bowl serving of 10 persons.

I am not a die hard fan for soup. To me, it is not bad after all. The ingredients used include button mushroom, livers, gizzards, fermented black bean, chicken, glass noodles and spring onions.
Yeng Keng Chicken Chop: RM15.00 (per portion for one person) / RM30.00 for serving of 10 persons.

The portion here is for 2 persons. The chicken is a bit salty to my liking. This Chicken Chop is more towards the western style rather than the Hainanese style. The gravy consists of tomato, carrot, cucumber, green pea, sweet corn, onion and button mushroom.

Grilled Fish with Butter Sauce: RM18.00 (per portion for one person) / RM36.00 for serving of 10 persons.

The fish used is dory fish from Vietnam. It is not bad actually. However, same as the chicken chop, the fish is a bit salty.
Braised Lamb Shank: RM35.00 (per portion for one person) / RM70.00 for serving of 10 persons

The portion is really huge. At first, I never see the spaghetti which is underneath the lamb shank. The spaghetti used is from Le Fonteb with the size of 11. I am not really care about which size they used. To me, the taste is more important. The lamb is tender and the spaghetti is nice.
Chicken Pie: RM25.00 (per portion for 3 – 5 persons) / RM35.00 for serving of 10 persons (with extra filling)

The shape of this chicken pie is like a spaceship. Normally, we have a round chicken pie instead of oval. The ingredients inside the chicken pie are chicken, button mushroom, egg, carrot, sweet corn, onion and black mushroom. I still prefer the chicken inside to be boneless chicken. I like the pastry though.

Inchi Kabin: RM30.00 (whole chicken)

This is just a simple and nice dish! The chicken is good. The crackers are a bit oily but overall is OK.
Curry Tumis Promfret (Tau Teh Fish): RM100.00 – RM120.00 (Depending on market price).

If you order this curry and eat with white rice, it will be a superb combination. I like the thick Curry Tumis gravy. Nice! If you don’t like Promfret and wish to opt with other fish, it can be arranged accordingly if you make a reservation early.
Braised Duck with Yam (Ar Or): RM50.00 (half duck) / RM85.00 (whole duck)

I seldom eat duck. This is the very first time I tried out this dish. Not bad at all. The portion we have is just a half duck.
Bomb Alaska: RM20.00 per serving (Serves 4 person)

This is also the very first time I heard and tried this dessert. It consists of butter cake, cocktail fruits, 4 scoops of ice cream, egg white and rum.

The chef is showing us on how to burn the rum and dress this dessert.

After the burning process, here you go…. The final outcome!

We all feel that the butter cake is a bit too dry, make it not so nice when eaten. However, this is very special and worth a try.

Chef and Manager.

After the dinner, Jacky, the manager of Yeng Keng Hotel, lead us to visit their suites, 202 Chulia Suite and 207 Yeng Keng Suite.

History
YENG KENG HOTEL 362 CHULIA STREET
No.362 is considered one of the oldest surviving intact buildings in the historic enclave of Chulia Street, a vibrant component of the World Heritage Site of George Town. Like many of the other buildings in the neighbourhood, it was originally built in the mid 1800’s as a private residence. The Anglo Indian bungalow belonged initially to Shaik Eusoffe bin Shaik Latiff an Indian Muslim family and remains unique in Chulia Street for not being relegated to the rear of a row of shop-houses blocking its façade.
In 1897 trustees of the Cantonese Club ‘Yin Han Pit Shu’ bought the building on behalf of the association, later donating it to the trustees of the Straits Chinese British Association in 1939. In the early 1900’s, the building was leased to Yeng Keng Hotel.
The conversion from a residence into a hotel was the prevailing trend along the street, at the beginning of the 20th Century. Small places of lodgings that were conveniently reached from the harbour were in great demand as the traffic in the port grew. To add grandeur to the commercial establishment and to distinguish it from the rest of the buildings on the street, an impressive traditional Chinese entrance gate was constructed announcing entry to the ‘Lodging House’.
Conservation and up-grading by the present owner, Hoo Kim Properties Sdn Bhd, was undertaken in 2009 with the renewed Yeng Keng Hotel completed in April 2010.’
Overall, the food was not bad at all! I like most of them although the Chicken Chop and the Grilled Fish were a bit salty to my liking. I also like the pastry of the Chicken Pie. Some of the dishes need to pre order prior to your dining. Make sure you call them up and ask for it before you go to avoid any disappointment. The environment and surroundings are good too! If you are in Penang and want to stay in the town area, Yeng Keng Hotel will be one of the best choices for you to choose from.

Got pulled in by the headline and stayed because the content actually delivered on the promise, and a stop at digitalpickmarket kept that trust intact, when a site lives up to its own framing it earns the right to keep showing up in my browser tabs going forward indefinitely from here on out really.
Found this really helpful, the explanations are simple but they actually answer the questions a normal reader would have, and after I followed goldendunemarket I had a clearer sense of the topic, no extra fluff just useful points laid out in a sensible order that made the time worth it.
Reading this slowly in the morning before opening email, and a stop at echohollowmarket extended that protected attention, content that earns the prime morning reading slot before the daily distractions begin is content with elevated status and this site has earned that prime slot consistently in my recent reading habits clearly.
After reading several posts back to back the consistent voice across them is impressive, and a stop at urbanpinegoods continued that voice consistency, sites that maintain a single coherent voice across many pieces by potentially many writers represent serious editorial discipline and this one has clearly developed the institutional consistency needed for that.
Easy to recommend, the content speaks for itself without needing additional praise from me, and a stop at mysticthreadstore only adds more reasons to send people this way, the kind of generous resource that benefits its readers without demanding anything in return is increasingly rare and worth recognising clearly today across the broader open internet.
Most attempts at writing on this topic feel like they are missing something and this post finally identified what was missing, and a look at amberpetalmarket extended that diagnostic clarity, content that names what is wrong with adjacent treatments while doing better itself is content with both critical and constructive value and this site has both.
Felt the writer did the homework before publishing, the references hold up, and a look at boldtrendmarket continued that documented care, content with traceable claims rather than vague assertions is the kind I trust and the lack of bald assertion in this post is one of its quietly impressive qualities for me.
Quietly enthusiastic about this site after the past few hours of reading, and a stop at blossomhavenmarket extended that enthusiasm, the calibration of enthusiasm to evidence is something I try to maintain and this site has earned a calibrated quiet enthusiasm rather than the loud excitement that usually fades within a day or two of finding something.
The post made the topic feel approachable without making it feel trivial, that is a fine balance, and a stop at windcrestcollective maintained the same balance, finding the middle ground between welcoming and serious is genuinely difficult and the writers here have clearly figured out how to consistently hit it well across many different posts.
Bookmark earned, share earned, return visit earned, all from one reading session, and a look at echogrovecollective did the same, the trifecta of bookmark and share and return is rare in a single visit and represents the highest level of engagement I tend to offer any piece of online content these days here.
Worth marking the moment when reading this clicked into something useful for my own work, and a look at besttrendstation extended that practical click, content that connects to my actual life rather than just being interesting is content with the highest kind of value and this site is generating that connection at a high rate.
Now considering whether the post would translate well into a different form, and a look at silkduneemporium suggested similar versatility, content that could move into other media without losing its substance is content that has been built around ideas rather than around format and this site reads as idea first throughout posts.
Better than most of the writing I have come across on this topic recently, simpler and more direct, and a look at stylishcartarena continued in that same way, a real outlier in a crowded space full of repetitive content that says little while taking up a lot of reader time today which is unfortunate.

This filled in a gap in my understanding that I had not even noticed was there, and a stop at epictrendcorner did the same, the kind of post that gives you more than you expected when you first clicked through from somewhere else, a real find for anyone curious about the area covered here.
Recommended without reservation for anyone interested in the topic at any level of expertise, and a look at frostdunemarket only strengthens that recommendation, this site clearly knows how to serve readers across a range of backgrounds without watering down the content or talking past anyone in the audience which is genuinely impressive to see.
Now noticing that the post never raised its voice even when making a strong point, and a look at frostedenclavegoods continued that calm volume, content that can make important points without resorting to typographic emphasis or emotional appeal is content that trusts its substance to do the work and this site has that confidence consistently.
Generally my attention drifts on long posts but this one held it through the end, and a stop at quickshoppingcorner earned the same sustained focus, content that defeats my drift tendency is content with substantive pulling power and this site has demonstrated that pulling power across multiple pieces in a session that has now run quite long actually.
Quality work here, the post reads cleanly and the points stay focused throughout, and a stop at brightcartfusion kept the standard high, you can tell the writer cares about the final result rather than just hitting publish for the sake of having something new on the page to feed the search engines.
Worth a slow read rather than the fast scan I usually default to, and a look at urbancrestemporium earned the same slower pace from me, content that resets my reading speed downward is content with substance worth absorbing and this site has produced that effect on me multiple times now over the last week here.
Liked how the post handled an objection I was forming as I read, and a stop at mysticthreadstore similarly anticipated where my thinking was going next, the rare writer who can predict reader concerns and address them in advance is doing something most online content fails to do despite that being basic editorial work.
Found the use of subheadings really helpful for scanning back through the post later, and a stop at goldenshorestore kept that reader friendly approach going, navigation is something many blog writers ignore but small structural choices make a noticeable difference for someone returning to find a specific point again days or weeks later.
However casually I came to this site I have ended up reading carefully, and a look at neonbuycenter continued earning that careful reading, the conversion from casual visitor to careful reader is something content earns rather than demands and this site has accomplished that conversion for me over the course of just a few pieces.
Now adding the homepage to my regular check rotation rather than waiting for individual links to find me, and a stop at radiantfieldcollective confirmed the rotation upgrade, the move from passive discovery to active checking is a vote of confidence in a sites ongoing quality and this site has earned that active engagement clearly.
Thanks for the readable length, I finished it without checking how much was left, and a stop at urbanharborcollective kept me reading the same way, when I stop noticing the length of a piece because the content is engaging enough to sustain attention without willpower the writer has done their job well today.
A piece that earned its conclusions through the body rather than asserting them at the end, and a look at goldenharvestlane maintained the same earned quality, conclusions that follow from what came before are more persuasive than declarations and this site has clearly internalised that principle in how it constructs arguments throughout pieces.
Honestly impressed by how much useful content sits in such a small post, and a stop at moderntrendcenter confirmed the rest of the site packs a similar punch, density without confusion is a hard balance to strike and this site has clearly cracked the code on it across many different topic areas covered.
During a reading session that included several other sources this one stood out, and a look at blossomhollowstore continued the standout quality, the side by side comparison of sources during research is a useful exercise and this site has been winning those comparisons for me consistently across multiple research sessions during the last week.
Solid recommendation from me to anyone working in the area, the perspective here is grounded, and a look at smarttrendarena adds even more useful angles, the kind of site that becomes a reference rather than just a one time read which is a higher bar than most blogs ever reach today on the modern web.
Reading this triggered a small but real correction in something I had assumed, and a stop at frostharvestgoods extended that corrective effect, content that updates my beliefs through evidence rather than rhetoric is content with intellectual integrity and this site has earned that label consistently across the pieces I have read so far today.
Found something new in here that I had not seen explained this way before, and a quick stop at swiftmaplecorner expanded the idea even further, the kind of writing that nudges your thinking forward a bit without forcing the issue is exactly what I look for online today and rarely actually find anywhere.
Closed the tab with a small sense of finality rather than the usual rushed exit, and a stop at nextgentrendzone produced the same considered closing, when reading ends with deliberate satisfaction rather than impatient skip you know the time was well spent and this site is producing those satisfying endings consistently across what I read.
