BTB & Restaurant @ China House, Beach Street, Georgetown, Penang

It has been a while since I last visited China House. Last 2 weeks, I have the chance to go again and try out the BTB & Restaurant’s Entree and Mains. China House is located at the Beach Street, Georgetown, Penang. It is very near to those mural paintings area.

chinahouse 01It is a long hallway.

Beach Street Bakery. Different types of cakes! A lot of varieties and I am sure you will find the one you like!

Drinks.

chinahouse 04

Entree

Pumpkin and Apple Soup – with Candied Pumpkin Seeds and Parmesan Biscotti. I have a little surprise on this soup. It has a spiciness at the end, which I’ve never expected.

chinahouse 05

Mezze Vegetarian – Pomegranate Dip, Harrisa, Red Pepper Chutney, Fresh Green Relish, Corn and Parmesan Salsa, Eggplant, Ginger Bud Sambal, Yoghurt, Dukkah, Lemon Rocket Salad, served with Pita and Focaccia. It is a big plate, full of stuffs. Total of 8 different types of small dips for you to eat with the Pita and Focaccia. I am already full just by looking at it.

chinahouse 06

Grilled Haloumi – on Avocado, Cashew Nut Salad with Pomegranate Dressing, Parmesan Biscotti, Grapes, Cranberries and Rocket. I like this Grilled Holoumi Salad. It’s good especially with the Pomegranate Dressing. It is quite healthy too with all the greens and fruits. Recommended!

chinahouse 07

Salt Egg Yolk Crispy Chicken Strips – on a Watercress, Peanuts, Corn, Cherry Tomato, Green Mango, Coriander Salad with Spicy Peanut Dip. I can eat this one non stop, by dipping the spicy peanut dip. Yum!

chinahouse 08

Deep Fried Tiny Prawns – on a Mango and Avocado Salad with Pistachio and Basil Dressing. It is similar to those snack that we can order from a Japanese restaurant, just that it never has the Mango and Avocado Salad, if compare to this one. It is very tempting and you can just eat and finish them without your notice.

chinahouse 09

Mains

Chicken and Mushroom Pie – with Baked Sweet Potato, Mash Potato, Broccoli and Tomato Relish. The broccoli and the baked sweet potato are a bit dry for my liking. The pie is good though.

chinahouse 10

Hokkien Spaghetti Bolognese – with Minced Chicken served with Cucumber Ribbons, Eggplant, Ginger Bud Sambal and Caramelised Peanuts. First time I saw a spaghetti is served in a bowl instead of a plate. It will be hard for me if I want to mix the Mince Chicken with the spaghetti together.

chinahouse 11

Seared Fillet of Beef (200 grams) – with Parsnip Skordalia and Mushrooms, Roast Pumpkin and Duo of Sauces, Spicy Peanut Sauce and Balsamic Sauce. The same spicy peanut sauce (the dip for Salt Egg Yolk Crispy Chicken Strips) is being used for the beef as well.

chinahouse 12

chinahouse 13

Rack of Lamb – with Dukkah Pumpkin, Eggplant, Chimichurri Pesto and Cauliflower Gratin on the side. The lamb is OK to me (I am not a lamb lover so I cannot comment much on this). The Cauliflower Gratin was way too cheesy, perfect for cheese lovers.

chinahouse 14

chinahouse 15

Asian Platter – Loas Chicken and Pumpkin Curry, Coconut Beef Rendang, Sweet Basil Mango Salad, Eggplant, Ginger Bud Sambal, Caramelised Peanut Relish, Chicken Larb in Iceberg Cup, Coconut Rice and Crackers. Another big plate presentation with lots of stuffs!! The Coconut Beef Rendang and Loas Chicken and Pumpkin Curry was good. The spiciness were average, which is good to those who cannot really eat spicy. You will be so full to finish this all by yourself.

chinahouse 16

Desserts.

chinahouse 17

From the top (anti clockwise): Chocoholic Chocolate, Banana Mocha Frosting, Carrot Walnut, Salted Caramel Cheese CakeTiramisu and Passion Fruit Coconut Butter.

chinahouse 18

Overall, I like the all the 5 Entrees. But if really need to pick one or two, my choices will be the Grilled Haloumi and Mezze Vegetarian. For Mains, Hokkien Spaghetti Bolognese and Asian Platter will be my pick. For desserts, I don’t think I need to say much. They are good especially the Tiramisu and Salted Caramel Cheese Cake. The size of the cake is huge and it is selling at a reasonable price, in a range of RM10.60 to RM15.90. For cakes lovers, you need or should I say, you MUST go to China House to check out their cakes! You will never regret after all.

  1. Solid post, the structure is easy to follow and the language stays simple even when the topic gets a bit more involved, and a look at linkcabin kept that same standard going, so I left feeling like the time spent here was actually worth something for once which is rare lately.

  3. Probably this is one of the better quiet successes on the open web at the moment, and a look at adprism reinforced that quiet success quality, sites that are doing well without making a noise about doing well are the sites I most respect and this one has clearly chosen the quiet success path consistently throughout.

  4. Worth saying that the post fit naturally into a rhythm of careful reading, and a stop at rubyorchardtradegallery extended the same rhythm, content that pairs well with how I actually read rather than demanding a different mode is content well calibrated to its likely audience and this site has clearly thought about that consistently.

  5. Glad the writer kept this short rather than padding it out, the points stand on their own without needing extra context, and a look at birchgroveexchange kept the same approach going, brevity is a sign of confidence in the substance and the team here clearly trusts their content to land without filler.

  6. Approaching this site through a casual link click and being surprised by what I found, and a look at ketteglademarketstudio extended the surprise, the rare experience of stumbling into excellent independent content rather than predictable mediocrity is one of the actual remaining pleasures of casual web browsing and this site provided it cleanly.

  7. Looking through the archives suggests this site has been doing this for a while at this level, and a look at elitegoodszone confirmed the long term consistency, sites that have maintained quality across years rather than just a recent stretch are sites with serious editorial discipline and this one has clearly been at it for a while.

  8. Considered alongside other sources I have been reading this one consistently rises to the top, and a stop at stonelightemporium maintained that top ranking, the informal ongoing comparison between sources is something I do whenever reading on a topic and this site keeps coming out near the top of those comparisons over many sessions.

  9. Honestly the simplicity is what makes this work, the topic is not buried under filler words or overly complex examples, and a quick look at tokenware showed the same sensible style, I left with what I came for and no headache from over reading which is a real win these days.

  10. Speaking from the perspective of a fairly demanding reader the writing here clears the bar consistently, and a look at ampblip continued clearing that bar, the calibration of demanding reader is something I apply to all sources and this site has been one of the few that handles the demanding reading well across pieces sampled.

  11. Now feeling confident that this site will continue producing work I will want to read, and a look at fastpickzone extended that confidence into the future, projecting forward from current quality to expected future quality is something I do for sites I genuinely follow and this one has earned that forward looking trust clearly today.

  12. Took the time to read the comments on this post too and they were also worth reading, and a stop at fizzstep suggested the community quality matches the content quality, when the conversation around a piece is as good as the piece itself you know you have found a real corner of the internet.

  15. Better signal to noise ratio than most places I check on this kind of topic, and a look at startfreshnow kept that going, every paragraph here carries something worth reading rather than padding out the page to hit some arbitrary length target that search engines reward but readers ignore as soon as they notice it.

  16. A thoughtful piece that did not strain to be thoughtful, and a look at trendandstylemarket continued that effortless quality, when thinking shows up in writing without the writer drawing attention to it you know you are reading something genuinely considered rather than something performing the appearance of consideration which is also common online.

  17. Looking through the archives suggests this site has been doing this for a while at this level, and a look at bestchoicevalue confirmed the long term consistency, sites that have maintained quality across years rather than just a recent stretch are sites with serious editorial discipline and this one has clearly been at it for a while.

  18. Liked everything about the experience, from the opening through to the closing notes, and a stop at softblossomcorner extended that into more pages, finding a site where the editorial vision shows through every choice rather than feeling random is an increasingly rare experience and one I am glad to have today during this particular reading session.

  19. Appreciated how the post felt complete without overstaying its welcome, and a stop at trendworldmarket confirmed that economical approach runs across the site, knowing when to stop is a skill many writers never develop but here the discipline is obvious and welcome from the perspective of a busy reader trying to learn things efficiently.

  20. Reading this gave me something to think about for the rest of the afternoon, and after globalshoppingzone I had even more to mull over, the kind of post that lingers in the background of your day rather than evaporating immediately is genuinely valuable in an attention economy that punishes depth rather than rewarding it.

  21. However selective I am about new bookmarks this one made it past my filter, and a look at fashionbuycollective confirmed the bookmark was worth the slot, the precious slots in my permanent bookmark folder are difficult to earn and this site earned one without making me think twice about whether the slot was justified by the quality.

  22. Considered as a whole this site has developed a coherent point of view that comes through in individual pieces, and a look at timberpathstore continued displaying that coherence, sites with a unified perspective rather than a grab bag of takes are sites with editorial maturity and this one has clearly developed that maturity through years of work.

  23. Worth flagging this post as worth a careful read rather than a casual skim, and a stop at fullcirclemart earned the same careful approach, the few sites that warrant slower reading are sites I now treat differently from the daily content stream and this one has clearly moved into that elevated treatment category.

  24. Will be passing this along to a few people who would benefit from the perspective shared here, and a stop at lagooncrown only added to what I will be sharing, this kind of generous content deserves to circulate widely rather than getting buried in some search engine algorithm tweak that pushes it down the rankings.

  25. Adding this site to my regular reading list, the post earned that on its own, and a quick stop at marveldome sealed the decision, the kind of place worth checking back with from time to time because it consistently produces material that holds up against a critical reading too which I really value.

  26. Liked the way the post handled the final paragraph, no neat bow but no abrupt cutoff either, and a stop at classystylemarket continued that thoughtful ending pattern, endings are hard and most blog writers either over engineer them or skip them entirely and this site has clearly figured out a sustainable middle approach.

  27. Got something practical out of this that I can apply later this week, and a stop at softblossomstudio added more details to think about, this is exactly the kind of content I bookmark for future reference rather than the throwaway listicles that dominate most search results these days for almost any common topic.

  28. Generally my attention drifts on long posts but this one held it through the end, and a stop at curiopact earned the same sustained focus, content that defeats my drift tendency is content with substantive pulling power and this site has demonstrated that pulling power across multiple pieces in a session that has now run quite long actually.

  29. Came away with a slightly better mental model of the topic than I started with, and a stop at globalseasonstore sharpened that further, content that improves the reader thinking apparatus rather than just dumping facts into it is the rare kind I genuinely value and seek out when I have time to read carefully.

  30. Reading this fit naturally into my afternoon walk because I was reading on my phone, and a stop at isleparish continued well in that walking format, content that survives mobile reading without becoming awkward is content with format flexibility and this site has clearly thought about how it reads across different devices today.

  31. Now appreciating the small but real way this post improved my afternoon, and a stop at sunsetcrestboutique extended that small improvement effect, content that produces measurable positive impact on the texture of a reading day is content with real value and this site is producing those small positive impacts at a sustainable rate apparently.

  32. Now feeling the post has earned a proper recommendation rather than a casual mention, and a stop at flarefoil reinforced the recommendation strength, the difference between mentioning and recommending is a small editorial distinction I observe in my own conversations and this site has earned the upgraded recommendation level from me confidently today.

  33. Reading this as part of my evening winding down routine fit perfectly, and a stop at briskcanopy extended the wind down nicely, content that calms rather than agitates is what I want at the end of the day and this site provides that calming reading experience reliably which is increasingly rare across the modern web.

  34. Now planning to recommend this site in a context where my recommendations are taken seriously, and a stop at goldenmeadowsupply confirmed I should make that recommendation soon, the small but real act of recommending content into spaces where my taste matters is something I take seriously and this site is worth the recommendation.

  35. Now feeling the rare pleasure of trusting a source completely on first encounter, and a look at curiopact extended that initial trust into something more durable, the calibration of trust to evidence is something I do informally and this site has earned high trust through the cumulative weight of multiple consistently good posts already.

  36. Reading this confirmed a hunch I had been carrying about the topic without having articulated it, and a stop at isleparish extended the confirmation, content that gives shape to fuzzy intuitions is doing the rare work of making private thoughts public and this site is providing that articulating service consistently for me lately.

  37. Felt like I was reading something written by someone who actually thinks about the topic rather than reciting it, and a look at sunsetcrestboutique reinforced that impression, the difference between recited content and considered content is huge and this site clearly belongs to the latter category which I appreciate as a careful reader looking for substance.

  38. Started reading skeptically because the headline seemed overconfident, and the post earned the headline by the end, and a look at urbanstylechoice continued that pattern of earning its claims, sites that can back up their headlines without overpromising are rare and this one has clearly developed editorial calibration on that front consistently.

  39. Taking the time to read carefully here has been worthwhile for the past hour, and a look at meritmarina extended the worthwhile reading, the calculation of return on reading time spent is something I do informally and this site has been producing positive returns across multiple sessions during the last week of regular visits and reads.

  40. Felt like the post had been edited rather than just drafted and published, and a stop at cozytimberoutlet suggested the same care across the site, the difference between edited and unedited content is enormous for the reader and this site has clearly invested in the editing pass that most blogs skip entirely which really does show up.

  41. The tone stayed consistent across the whole post which is harder than it looks for longer pieces, and a look at creativehomeoutlet continued the same voice, this kind of editorial consistency is a sign of either a single careful writer or a tightly run team and either is impressive today across the broader media environment.

  42. Good quality through and through, no rough edges and no signs of being rushed, and a quick look at briskcanopy kept the same polish going, the kind of site that respects its own brand by maintaining consistency across pages which is something I always appreciate as a reader looking for trustworthy information online today.

  43. Started forming counter examples to test the claims and the post handled most of them implicitly, and a look at frostorchard continued that anticipatory style, writers who think two steps ahead of the critical reader save themselves from a lot of follow up work and this writer has clearly internalised that habit consistently.

  44. Now planning to recommend this site in a context where my recommendations are taken seriously, and a stop at globalseasonstore confirmed I should make that recommendation soon, the small but real act of recommending content into spaces where my taste matters is something I take seriously and this site is worth the recommendation.

  45. Approaching this with the usual skepticism I bring to new sites and being slowly persuaded, and a stop at brighttimbermarket continued that gradual persuasion, the careful path from skeptical reader to genuine fan is the only one I trust and this site has walked me along that path through patient consistent quality across pieces.

  46. A clean piece that knew exactly what it wanted to say and said it, and a look at bestdailycorner maintained the same clarity of intention, knowing the goal of a piece before writing is something most blog content lacks and the clarity of purpose here shows up in every paragraph for any careful reader to notice.

  47. Just wanted to say this was useful and leave a small note of thanks, and a quick visit to cozytimberoutlet earned a similar nod from me, the small acknowledgements add up over time and represent the real economy of trust that good content runs on across the open and increasingly fragmented modern internet.
